Alicia Keys Fishtail Braid
Fishtail braids are a great choice for both casual and glamorous looks! The braid itself gives an illusion of intricate detail but it’s really quite simple! ;)
Step 1: To achieve a nice thick braid you’ll need Madame Hair clip in hair extensions, choose between synthetic or natural hair and clip in positioning the extensions more to your chosen side. If using Madame Hair natural hair clip in extensions you may want to work a dose of Volumising Foam through hair when damp to help create texture.
Step 2: Gather hair to one-side creating lift and volume with your voluminsing foam especially around the crown area. If not using foam simply back-comb your own crown area. Section away your shorter layers to be used later for a sweeping fringe. Alicia’s braid is slightly dishevelled so use a Denman Paddle Brush to gently brush back your hair leaving you flyaways to leave hanging before gathering your hair to the right-side to begin your plaiting.
Step 3: If you’d like the more glamorous look place your braid higher up by separating your hair in half giving you two sections high up on the right side. Holding both sections split both into a further two unequal sections giving you four sections in total (and not many fingers left)! Try to make the two outer sections on each side smaller than the two inner sections this gives you a tighter braid.
Step 4: Taking your first outer section of strands cross it over to the other hand joining it up with the larger inner strands(the other hand is holding) then do exactly the same thing with the second outer strand section, cross it over to the opposite side. When this has been done once on each side you are back to the start, split your hair again into four sections as described in Step 3, repeat Step 4.
Finishing Off You don’t have to split your hair the same amount each time, a little inconsistency can make this braid look good. Continue this plaiting method till you have the length of plait you desire and secure with a clear hair band. Then gently rub and pull the plait apart to make it chunkier and worn-looking ,if that’s your desired look. Finally release your shorter layers you sectioned away earlier by sweeping it to one side and let it lie smoothly in front of the plait as a sweeping fringe.
Viola you're done! :D
